OPLONTIS, ERCOLANO AND VESUVIO

Tour up to a maximum of 4 people
DESCRIPTION
The Vesuvius eruption in 79 AD flooded with lava all the little Vesuvius towns in the nearby. Oplontis’s excavations belong to the Archaeological Park of Torre Annunziata: it was a residential town for people of the highest rank, all buried by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD. Excavations and archaeological researches have recovered lots of jewels of great quality and fine workmanship. All these remains with the other ones unearthed at Pompeii and Herculaneum, form a unique collection of priceless evidence testifying the existence of a genuine school of goldsmiths. The Villa of Poppea, Nero's wife, is of great interest. It is preserved in excellent condition and at the time of the eruption, it was uninhabited for the sustained damage occurred during the earthquake of 63s A.D. For this reason, there are no ornaments of all kinds but just lot of rich frescoes and they are visible all its spacious and luxurious environments: its entrance and peristyle; its spa and reception room; its garden, the master bedrooms and rooms for the servants; its porch and finally its lararium with a large swimming pool.. Herculaneum was destroyed by a 25 m thick layer of mud and lava. It is merely the mud that preserved all the rests without any great changements thanks to its seal function. The beauty of Herculaneum villas is amazing. If we look at their villas, all built just in front of the sea we will understand how lots of rich Romans enjoyed to spend their holidays over there. Walking along Decumani of Herculaneum is like walking through the time: their houses, their baths and temples, have saved their former colours. The archaeological site of Herculaneum is one of the most beautiful in the world. Vesuvius is certainly the most famous and dangerous volcano in the world. Indeed it is not the highest volcano in the world but certainly the most monitored (all together with all the volcanoes in the Phlegraean Fields and Ischia). its history has inextricably linked to the destruction of Pompeii and Herculaneum with all the rest of the Vesuvius little towns such as Stabia and Oplontis. Vesuvius is the only active volcano of mainland Europe and its shape inspires the curiosity and fear of all people living on its slopes, or just walking at his sight. One thing is sure: the scenario of the Gulf of Naples and Mount Vesuvius dominating on the sea is probably one of the most beautiful natural wonders of our planet! Climbing up to the crater means to relax, to have a best moment of real trek and to breath the real history of this volcano. Its destructive power has earned since ancient times the respect of the local and passing people.
